In 1993, members of the Fyvie Youth Club took part in a challenge to improve the environment of their local community. Their entry for the competition was the building of a bird hide, situated at the end of the Lake at Fyvie Castle, just at the entrance to the castle grounds. They dedicated the hide to George Sim, 90 years after the family left Gourdas and George went to live at Nigg.
To let visitors to the hide recognise the link to George Sim, and possibly go one to discover more about him, a plaque has now been sponsored by two descendants of the Sim family. The plaque has been mounted in the hide by the National Trust for Scotland so that visitors entering the hide will see it.
